Location

HotOS 2023 will take place on the campus of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. Please see below for information on how to best travel to Providence and Brown's campus.

By Airplane

You can fly into either Boston Logan Airport (BOS) or Rhode Island T.F. Green Airport (PVD). Boston has long-haul connections to most international destinations and a large network of U.S. domestic flights. Rhode Island T.F. Green Airport has flights to major U.S. hubs (Chicago, New York City, Washington DC, Atlanta), so if you have a stopover anyway, it can be a good option. Alternatively, you can also fly into New York City and take the train or a car up to Providence, which will take about 3–4 hours (see below).

To get from Boston Logan Airport to Providence, we recommend taking a train: either Amtrak ($9–$100 one-way depending on when you book the ticket) or MBTA Commuter Rail ($12.25 one-way) work. Amtrak is faster (38 minutes), while Commuter Rail trains take longer (about 1h 10 min) but run more frequently and later into the night. You can also take an Uber/Lyft, which will cost around $80–$100 one-way, though beware that getting rides to Providence late at night (e.g., after 11pm) can be tricky.

If you're flying into T.F. Green Airport (PVD), your best option is an Uber/Lyft/taxi to downtown Providence, which will take about 15 minutes and cost approximate $20.

By Train

Providence is on the Northeast Corridor, the only high-speed railroad in the United States. There are regular Amtrak trains to Boston and New York City/Washington DC, roughly every 30 to 60 minutes during daytime. The Providence train station is a 5-minute walk from the center of downtown, and about 10–15 minutes walk from the workshop hotels.

By Car

Depending on your direction of arrival, you will most likely be taking the I-95 interstate into Providence. See here for driving directions to Brown and on-campus parking information.
