NOTE
This year's registration form will ask you a
number of additional questions, so we ask that you take a
few minutes to read the
Q&A below and the
Venue/Local Information Page
before proceeding.
Registration Questions & Answers
- Where do I register?
-
Like many ACM conferences, SOSP 2013 will use RegOnline
to handle the conference registration.
There's a button at the bottom of this page.
- What information will I need in order to register?
- You will need to know the following:
- What you are attending (SOSP, workshops, or both);
- If you have a complimentary registration, student scholarship
or a professional scholarship, you will need a
registration code. Scholarship recipients will receive
their codes in their grant award letters. Other attendees
with complimentary registration should receive their codes
via email. For any questions, please contact the
registration chairs
(sosp2013-reg@acm.org);
- Your lodging preferences/room choice (see
Accommodations for more
details); if you are sharing a room, you will also need
the names and email addresses of your preferred roommate(s);
- Your travel plans, if possible, particularly if you would like
to schedule a shuttle from the airport (see
Transportation for
more details);
- Activities that you might want to participate in, particularly
if you would like to join the tour of Fallingwater on Tuesday
afternoon. (See Activities
for more details.)
- What are the SOSP registration costs?
-
There are three different sets of prices based on when you register
for the conference. The prices also vary based on whether you are
a student and/or a member of ACM/SIGOPS.
Early Bird: | before September 7, 2013 (11:59pm Eastern) |
Standard: | from September 8 until October 27, 2013 (11:59pm Eastern) |
Late/On-site: | from October 28 |
| Early Bird | Standard | Late/On-site |
ACM/SIGOPS Member | $625 | $750 | $825 |
Non-ACM/SIGOPS Member | $750 | $875 | $950 |
Student ACM/SIGOPS Member | $425 | $550 | $625 |
Student Non-ACM/SIGOPS Member | $525 | $650 | $725 |
Note:
It is cheaper to become an ACM member and pay the member
registration fee than to pay the non-member price, especially for students.
Currently, ACM Professional Membership is $99 and Student Membership is $19.
See this page for details
and a link to the online application.
- What are the SOSP Workshop costs?
-
The workshop costs do not vary based on when you register or your
status as a student and/or member of ACM/SIGOPS.
LADIS (1.5 days) | $300 |
Other Workshops (1 day) | $200 |
Note: If you are attending both a workshop and SOSP, you will receive
a $70 multi-event discount on your registration.
- Can I register on site?
-
On-site registration will be possible but only with a
credit card and for an additional fee. We will not be prepared to deal
with cash.
- What if I have submitted an application for a travel grant?
-
You should wait until you hear back from the scholarship committee.
The scholarship committees plan to get back to all applicants
before the early registration deadline. If you are awarded a
scholarship, you will receive an access code that you should use when
registering.
- What if I have a complimentary registration?
-
You should have received an access code to use during registration.
If not, please contact the registration chairs
(sosp2013-reg@acm.org).
- What if I would like to bring a guest to the banquet (Tue, Nov. 5)
who is not attending the conference?
-
There is an option to do so on the registration form. The cost
is $100. We have a limited number of spots for guests,
so we will sell them on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Can I modify my registration after completing the process?
-
If you need to make any changes, please contact the
registration chairs
(sosp2013-reg@acm.org).
- What is the registration cancellation/refund policy?
-
All requests for refunds of registration fees must be made in writing
to the registration chairs and received no later than October 1, 2013.
Requests received before September 7, 2013
will receive a full refund less a $50 fee.
For requests received between September 8 and October 1, 2013,
the cancellation fee will be $200.
- Why do I need to select my hotel accommodations during
the registration process instead of booking directly with
the hotel?
-
Short answer: bin packing. Long answer: We want to make sure
that as many people as possible can stay at Nemacolin instead of
overflow hotels. Managing the hotel rooms ourselves should help
us to do this. Please see Accommodations
for more details.
- What if I really want to book directly?
-
The hotel won't allow you to do this until after the room block
is released (see below). If you have a special circumstance,
please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your
situation. As noted in Accommodations,
the registration process allows you to indicate a room preference;
we will assign rooms based on availability and confirm your
reservation by email. You still need to present a credit card at
checkin and pay for it yourself at checkout.
- When is the hotel room block released to the public?
-
30 days before the conferences (Oct. 4)
- What is the hotel cancellation policy?
-
Reservations may be cancelled without penalty 30 days
prior to scheduled arrival. Within 30 days of the scheduled arrival, the
guest will be charged for one night's lodging.
- What if I don't know my roommate right now, but I want to
register?
-
If you would like us to select a roommate for you with the same
travel dates and room type, there is option for that on the
registration form. If you would like to select your own roommate
but don't have someone in mind yet, please wait until you know.
Note that we cannot confirm that you and your roommate(s) will
be able to share a room until both/all of you register. Please
be sure that all of the people who are rooming together list each
other on the registration form.
- What if I want to register now but my preferred roommate
is waiting to hear about a travel grant?
-
Assuming that basically all of the students share rooms and
that the number of students who will attend is in line with
previous SOSPs, we will have enough space for all of the students
in shared rooms at Nemacolin. Therefore, you can feel free to register as
soon as you'd like, and your roommate can safely wait until
he/she hears back from the scholarship committee. We will
make a final room assignment once we receive both registrations.
(If there are no more rooms left of the requested type, we will
do our best to assign you the most similar available
room. That is, we will give priority to giving you your
roommate choice over the room type that you select.)
- What if Nemacolin runs out of rooms?
-
Given the historical SOSP attendance, we think that this
is very likely. When that happens, we will update the website with
information about overflow hotels.
- What if I need a Visa Support Letter?
-
Please see this page
for details.
- What if I have questions that are not covered here?
-
Please contact the registration chairs
(sosp2013-reg@acm.org).
